So each year on Super Bowl Sunday the Museums in the area offer free admission for several hours in the afternoon. We had looked at the list and tried to decide which ones we wanted to sample but we needed more time:). We went to church, grabbed some lunch, and headed downtown to hit as many as we could.
Our first stop was the Railroad Museum. We know we will return to this one (probably many times) but it was a way to appease the boys and tell them that we would go to one for them first and then we would go to one for mom and dad. Of course we enjoyed the train museum as well.
Checking out their first view of the Roundhouse
This was really cool too....we got to have a turn on the Hand Car. I had to snap this in a hurry before getting on so I could help Blake.
I cannot imagine how much work it would have been working on a Hand Car. This would be a workout!
We could have spent our entire time at the Railroad Museum but we know we will go back. I had really wanted to see in one of the historic homes downtown (especially since it was free) so we headed to the Andrew Low House. We didn't realize they were giving the tours so we ended up sneaking out because the boys wouldn't have lasted the entire time and we really wanted to fit in as much as we could.
The next stop was the Ships of the Sea Museum. The boys enjoyed this one as well seeing all the model ships. It was pretty cool.

While in one of the rooms in the Ships of the Sea Museum, Caden looks down and picks up some money. He is ALWAYS picking up "treasures" on the ground....he has a very quick eye!! (it truly amazes me) Well, this wasn't just $1 it was a $20 bill!!! I am not going to take credit for the remainder of the story. Caden totally figured he could keep it....he found it right. Well, for a moment I contemplated letting him keep it. We asked some ladies who walked out of the room if they had lost it and they had not. So we told Caden that we did need to return it to the Museum because someone dropped it and if they came back looking for it they would find it. We took it to the workers at the gift shop desk and turned it in. They were so very nice and appreciative. One of the ladies then proceeded to give both of the boys a "prize" for their honesty....a Ships of the Sea Museum pencil!! These boys truly were thrilled with their pencils!! They still talk about it and love their pencils! It was a good lesson for Caden (and me=) ).

Caden told his teacher at school the next day what he did and she gave him a piece of candy for his honesty. I think it made an impression on him. Honesty is more important than $20 though!
By this time we thought we could hit up another Museum that we had really hoped to see but they closed as we got there. =(
However, a trip downtown cannot be complete without going and looking a the river and hoping that a Cargo ship will come by.... oh yeah and a quick stop at the candy store for some candy or ice cream =)
It was a good day!!! So if you plan to visit Savannah around this time of year....plan it on Super Bowl Sunday and you can visit some of the Museums for free! We already look forward to next year!
