Milestones!

Yet another milestone!!  I am not sure who feared this day more, me or Blake??!!  Blake was pretty attached to his paci and even though I didn't allow him to play outside with it or take it in public he had it if we were inside at home and even while he just played in the house.  Honestly, it didn't bother me too much but I know that it isn't viewed well by others and I don't want him to have teeth or speach issues due to it.  So we started prepping him that when he turned 3 he had to get rid of it.  We had tried to get him to give it to the new baby next door....nope, he didn't buy that.   One day a week or so before his birthday I heard  him tell someone that he was going to throw his paci in the dump when he turned 3.  I jumped on that one and we kept talking about it.  He told people this the week of his birthday just out of the blue so I was optimistic that this may just work and like potty training wouldn't be difficult.

Confession:  Birthday came and went and I really wasn't wanting to push the issue really fearing he wouldn't sleep as well.

His birthday was on Friday and his party was on Saturday so I opted to wait for Saturday when daddy was with us and it could be a family affair.  We had to take the recycling to the convenience center so we told him we were going to throw it in the dump.  He DID IT!!  We celebrated by gettting ice cream afterwards.  On the way home from the ice cream it was close to bed time and he started asking for his paci.  I asked him "Blake where is your paci??" His response was "I don't know?"  A little denial I think on his part.  This conversation happened the whole way home but not really any tears.  He asked over and over for it when I was putting him to bed but I finally just assured him, gave him his lovey (tag blanket) and walked out.  He slept all night!!  The first words out of his mouth the next morning.....pretty early too I might add....were "I want my paci!"  He asked for it A LOT the first few days but never had a fit for it.

Confession #2:  I had kept a spare just in case!  Luckily we never needed it.  However, it is still in my purse...wonder who has the issue now:)

The only things I can say that I have noticed since giving it up is it does at times seem to take him longer to fall asleep at nap and bedtime.  He really didn't want lovey as much now that paci was gone but he does still carry it with him.  He also is even more mischevious....but maybe that just is him and being 3!  I am not so certain I would say 2 yo is as hard as almost 3 and 3yo.

Enjoy the videos of the BIG moment!

Sorry I am in the videos more than I would like to be....and also the video's are a little shakey because we were handling multiple cameras!

PS...the first night I put him to bed as we discussed that we threw his paci away because he was 3 he decided then he was 2!!  I told him he had to return his presents if he didn't have a birthday and on this birthday he had turned 3.  He decided he liked the birthday party, presents and cake....he then just resorted back to asking over and over for it.  Not sure he is convinced being 3 is a good thing ;)
