Road Trip

Well the boys and I (meaning the little boys...not Jason) headed to NC for a long weekend to visit my parents at their cabin. I was only a little nervous about driving the 6 hours with them but they (mostly Blake, Caden has always done well) did great on the trip. Caden has entered the "are we there yet" phase and without a true concept of time this is really hard to explain. You say 5 "hours" and he takes that as a 5 "minute" warning he often gets...not realizing there are many minutes in an hour. They napped well and we made it without any problems.

The weekend was pretty cold and wet so not much outside time. Saturday we went to a place called Fun Factory for them to play and burn energy and then stopped by an Apple Festival. Sunday was a lazy afternoon and a trip up the mountain to Cashiers. Monday and Tuesday the weather was beautiful and much warmer. The boys were thrilled to be able to get outside and test out their new sleds Ome had ordered (now we just need at least one day of snow this winter). We didn't need snow at the cabin we did the "red neck" version of sledding......a good hill with pine straw and leaves. This passed many hours. We also collected black walnuts and threw them in the river and went on several walks (or runs....the boys love to race). We were supposed to come home on Tuesday so Caden could return to school on Wedn.....BUT it is only preschool so we opted to stay another day (which turned into two since then we didn't have to be home until Friday). I know the times of having extended visits like this will end when the boys are in full time school. We missed Jason and I know he wished he could be with us. It worked out though since he had a huge project deadline and our neighbors thought he was gone too.....that just shows he pretty much lived at the office (poor guy). The boys were super excited to see him though!

We had a milestone while gone too....Blake went #2 on the potty for the first time.  He hasn't shown any interest again, but hey we were very excited he did it this time without us really even pushing it.  I know there is not any privacy at this age:)

The return trip wasn't bad either but not as smooth as going. I did have to pull over twice on the interstate and the second time warranted some major intervention with my "sweet" little Blake's new found attitude:) When they did nap I hit the gas the best I could and made good time (still being safe of course).

We enjoy any of our times we get to visit family. I hope the boys will have great memories of their visits to NC and FL when they grow up. The last two pics are of the boys on the dock by the river. One was from April of 2008 (Blake was 9 months old and Caden was 2 1/2) and now.  To view the full album of pictures go here
