Stats

I knew the boys were very close in size but our trip to the doctor for our well checks confirmed!  I scheduled the boys well checks for the same day and time and took Jason for support.  I knew Caden would be getting shots and I suspected that Blake had at least one to get also.  We have also learned through past experiences that Caden will sometimes do better for Jason than he does me in situations like this.  I will get to the shots in a few....

As for the boys STATS....
Caden at 5 years old is 40 1/2 pounds and is 42 inches tall (they said 41 1/2 but I think he was slouching a little)....this puts him in the 50th % for weight and between 25th-50th% for height.

Blake at 3 years old is 38 1/2 pounds and is 40 1/2 inches tall....think this put him in the 95th % for both.
(I think Blake is about 6 lbs more and about 3 inches taller than Caden was at 3 years old)

Now for the visit...  We had opted not to tell Caden about the shots ahead of time.  If he had asked I would have told him but luckily he didn't ask.  I know Caden and he would have totally shut down and not cooperated with anything they wanted him to do just out of anticipation.  He is so hesitant to stand on the scale, have his BP taken, and do the hearing test on a normal day.  So the visit went really well overall and they checked out just fine!  As we waited on the nurse to come back to give the shots (we were done with the Dr and the boys had popcicles) we decided to tell him.  I was right he started crying then and didn't stop.  It got much louder when the nurse came in and turned into him yelling he needed to go Peepee (I knew that wasn't so...he just wanted a way out).  So yes there were tears and resistance but I cannot blame him.  He settled off well when it was said and done though.  Blake got upset just seeing Caden upset and then it was his turn.  He didn't protest at first but after the shot he wasn't happy at all!  Overall both boys did really well and we celebrated by letting them go to McDonalds!  Then we went home and everyone took  naps....well except daddy he had to go to work when we left the Dr's office.  I am SOOOO VERY thankful that he was able to go with me though!!  I do visits on my own with both the boys a lot but not with them this old and both getting shots!

Poor boys! Will had 3 shots at his 4 yo checkup, and he cried before and after. (He couldn't figure out how to cough, so distraction techniques didn't work.) The funniest thing is that he refused to take his bandaids off for 24 hours--I finally figured out that he really thought the shots had left holes in his legs under the bandaids and he didn't want to see them! Kids are so funny.
